The Everest base camp short trek is a shortened standard EBC trek to accommodate your unavailability of weeks to spare for a trek. This trek takes you through the standard EBC trail but at the end of the trek, you will descend down to Lukla from Gorkashep in a helicopter, saving you days of travel in the process.
There are also other Everest Base Camp short treks that take you to the Everest Base Camp on a helicopter and back. But this is not much of a trek but rather a trip on a helicopter, that is why we are introducing this 7 days Everest Base Camp trek which lets you enjoy the trek as well as a helicopter ride. The best of both worlds.
First, we will get your permits in Kathmandu, the package covers this expense so you do not have to pay for it separately. Once we are done with the permit, we will travel to the airport to catch a flight to Lukla. The flight to Lukla is a special one as it lets you take a look at the incredible Everest region in its entirety. You will get to experience an overhead view of the valleys, hills, and peaks of the Everest region.
Once you reach Lukla, we will get your luggage. The porters will carry your luggage all the way to Gorak Shep and back. From Lukla, we will trek to Phakding, entering the Sagarmatha National Park and the trek continues to Namche Bazaar, the next day. The village of Namche is unlike any of the villages you will experience in the Everest region. This bustling little town will capture all your attention.
From Namche, we will then trek to Tengboche, Lobuche, and finally Gorakshep, the last settlement before we reach the Everest Base Camp. This ultimate destination is the fruit of your efforts to trek such a long distance through rugged trails and ups and downs.
Moreover, the 7 days Everest Base Camp trek is a beginner-friendly trek that lets you experience the authentic Sherpa villages of the Khumbu region and takes you back to Lukla on a scenic helicopter ride.

Despite what many people think, you don’t need to be an accomplished hiker or endurance freak to conquer the Everest base camp short trek. Actually, a wide variety of individuals, from novices to experts, will be there. A reasonable degree of fitness combined with psychological preparation will be enough for the majority of individuals.
It is highly recommended that you prepare for the journey by training to walk for extended periods of time while carrying some weight (4 to 5 kg). If you’re in reasonably good shape, though, your physique will get used to it very fast after you start hiking in the hills.
Aside from a few days with significant altitude gain, the hiking route is in excellent shape, with broad, level trails and obvious signage. As a result, the trip is not at all difficult. On a scale of 1 to 10, this 7 days Everest base camp trek is a solid 6.
The best season to visit the Everest region is the period between late September and early December, if you’d like to have an unforgettable Everest Base Camp short trek. It’s the one with the most consistent weather period, but it’s certainly the busiest.
The fall season, during the height of the dry season, is the ideal time to do the 7 days Everest Base Camp trek. Since this is the busiest and most popular hiking season, you can anticipate a lively and bustling environment on the paths.
You can also do this Everest base camp short trek in summer and spring but the weather in summer might be a little too warm at lower elevations making day treks sweaty and tiring.
Yes, a beginner can join this trip since it is a shortened trek with a Helicopter ride on the way back. Compared to the standard EBC trek, you do not have to hike all the way back to Lukla from Gorakshep. This makes it a beginner-friendly experience. Additionally, the trekking trails are not difficult to walk and they are well-marked as well.
The height of the Everest Base Camp is 5,364 meters (17,598 ft), on a standard itinerary, trekkers would visit the Kala Patthar viewpoint which is the highest point of the 7 days Everest base camp trek, situated at an altitude of 5,644 meters above sea level. But this Everest base camp short trek excludes that certain part.
In addition to that, the daily elevation is around 500-600 meters per day except from Phakding to Namche, which is the recommended daily elevation gain to avoid altitude sickness. And since the maximum elevation we reach during this Everest base camp short trek is 5364 meters above sea level, there is a slight risk of altitude sickness.
However, we will only be spending a couple of hours at EBC which keeps us safe from altitude sickness.
The ideal way to experience the evenings in the highlands is to stay in tea houses. These rooms are your finest option for interacting with other trekkers since they are incredibly warm and inviting. The majority of tea shops have affordable prices, and based on the elevation, you can get access to a variety of amenities.
Nevertheless, there is never a lack of visitors in the tiny settlements, so staying there will definitely help you make some friends. Almost all tea houses now offer amenities like internet access, laundry, and hot showers. These are your personal expenses which will not be covered by the 7 days Everest Base Camp trek package.
They are entitled to bill you whatever the standard price is, but they cannot ensure the warmth of the shower or the reliability of the internet connectivity. Like anything in the hills, prices increase as you ascend upwards into higher elevations.
The Everest base camp short trek route is one of the most well-maintained and developed trekking trails in Nepal. You will get to taste a bunch of dishes including contemporary dishes like pancakes, pizzas, spaghetti, pasta, etc. along with traditional Sherpa dishes like Tsampa, Shyakpa, Thukpa, Tingmo, Rildok, Momo, Syaphale, etc.
We recommend you to try the local dishes are much as possible because you will find pizzas and pancakes everywhere but not the local Sherpa dishes. Having the local dishes is a way to connect with the Sherpas, it serves as a bridge between the communication gap.
Lastly, the drinks you drink along this trek will be at your own expense. Our Everest base camp short trek does not cover any of the drinks or beverage-related expenses. The drinking water in the Himalayas can be polluted or infected so make sure that you drink bottled water, boiled water, or carry a water purification tablet with you at all times.
Transportation required for this 7 days Everest Base Camp trek includes traveling to and from the international airport in Kathmandu, transport to and from the regional airport to get to Lukla, other ground transport (if required by the itinerary), and your helicopter ride from Gorak Shep to Lukla. These transportation expenses are covered by the Everest base camp short trek package.
For the 7 days Everest Base Camp trek, you need a TIMS card and a Sagarmatha National Park ticket. These permits are available at the National Tourist Board office and our guide will help you get the necessary paperwork in Kathmandu. You will have to submit 2 passport-sized photos, insurance details, emergency contact details, and a photocopy of your passport to get these permits.
For this trek, you have to train yourself for at least 3 weeks prior to your arrival at Kathmandu. Getting used to the physical demands of the trek is the best way to prepare yourself for what’s coming. If you are able to hike small hills, it is the perfect exercise. Walking long distances is yet another great exercise to prepare yourself.
Also, make sure that you are carrying a backpack with 4 to 5 kg of weight, to simulate the trekking days you will go through during the trek. Even though our porters will carry your luggage to the EBC and back, you still need to carry a daypack for easy access to water bottle, energy bars, snacks, and your gadgets.
The actual Everest base camp short trek is rather simple. During the busiest trekking season, dozens of hikers complete it each day, making it exceedingly unlikely that one might get stranded here.
Having said that, there are several more paths you may choose to go back to Lukla, where the trek begins, once you’ve arrived at EBC. Choosing your course of action is the very first thing you must decide. This mostly depends on the number of days and expertise you have, for the majority of trekkers.
The standard Everest base camp short trek itinerary offers you a side trek to the Gokyo Lakes or the Three Passes. If you want to add more difficulty to your EBC trek, you can opt for a trek to Lukla from Bupsadanda instead of a flight. But the scenic flight to Lukla is one of the attractions of the trek so you would not want to miss that.
Your extra expenses are international flight tickets, personal insurance (medical/travel), visa fees upon arrival, hot shower, wifi, other extra amenities in tea houses, tips for the porters, guides, and drivers, extra snacks, any kind of beverage and anything not mentioned as a part of the package.
Yes, you will be able to charge your devices throughout the 7 days Everest Base Camp trek. The Everest region is one of the most developed trekking destinations of Nepal and offers you a range of amenities including but not limited to hot showers, WiFi, electrical device charging, etc.
Yes, this 7 days Everest Base Camp trek can be done solo. Even though the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) has stated that every international trekker must have a guide with them at all times, the local authorities strongly oppose this view and allow international trekkers to trek the Everest region without any guide.
Yes, you can stay the night in EBC but there are chances of altitude sickness at such a height, so it’s not recommended unless you are there to climb the Everest peak in which case you can not avoid it. In this Everest base camp short trek, you won’t have the option to stay in EBC as this is a short trek.
Yes, an emergency helicopter can be called upon at any point during the 7 days Everest Base Camp trek, if you are struck with altitude sickness. The emergency helicopter service is not a part of the Everest base camp short trek package and we do not cover any expense related to it.
The local food in the Everest region is a range of infused dishes, a combination of the Nepalese and Tibetan delights. Generally, the local dishes are full of much-needed carbs and less protein. In the past, the local people’s main occupation was rearing sheep, yaks, and other animals, this required long days of herding. And so, their local food is full of carbs which provides them energy for all-day physical activities.
