Khopra Danda Trek is suitable in all the months of the year, but each month and season offers a different, unique experience. The ideal time to visit Khopra Ridge is in both the spring and autumn seasons due to the stable weather and clear blue skies, which offer enjoyable Himalayan views.
Additionally, rhododendron forests blossom beautifully, and it is the time of major festivity in Nepal in the spring season. But if you are planning for Khopra Danda Trek in monsoon season, it is a bad idea due to poor trail conditions and slippery paths, and you will encounter leeches sticking in your body.
Moreover, it is also not favorable to travel to Khopra Ridge in the winter season due to heavy snowfall and cold freezing temperatures. There are many snow blockages on the trails, which makes it very difficult for hiking in this winter time in Nepal.
You have to travel 200 kilometers from Kathmandu City to reach Pokhara. From Dobato, it is only 6.5 kilometers away to reach Khopra Danda. Similarly, you have to walk 13 kilometers to reach the sacred Khayer Lake on a round trip.
You will be at an elevation of 3210 meters when you reach Poon Hill to watch the beautiful sunrise. The highest elevation of this Khopra Danda Trek will be the holy Khayer Lake, which is 4660 meters (15,289 feet) high above sea level. The second highest elevation of this journey is at Khopra Ridge, which is 3660 meters (12,008 feet) high above sea level.
You will ascend about 400 to 500 meters per day, so it is less likely that you will suffer from altitude sickness. Your body will adjust quickly in lesser altitudes, so you can complete this hiking journey easily in comparison to other classic trekking routes in Nepal.
Khopra Danda Trek’s 12-day journey is a moderately difficult hike that is suited for trekkers, both novices and those who have prior experience. This trekking involves gradual climbs and descents across multiple ridges, which need an average of 4 to 5 hours of trekking time daily.
During your trek to Khayer Lake, you need to ascend about 4660 meters above sea level, which could be challenging and hard compared to the rest of the trekking days in your 12-day journey.
There are only 2 high points on this trek, which are Khopra Danda at 3,660 meters and Khayer Lake at 4,660 meters, so the risk of altitude sickness is low. However, altitude sickness can start above 3000 meters; hence, you must be aware of the early symptoms to prevent further risks and health hazards.
Although this trek can be done by beginners, however, you still need to be in decent physical shape. You need to come prepared before embarking on this trek so that your body can handle any sort of obstacles and challenges while you trek.
You can start doing some physical and cardio exercises before one to two months to get ready for the hiking experience.
In this Khopra Danda Trek journey of 12 days, you need to walk an average of four to five hours per day regularly when you start your trekking journey from Nayapul. The minimum walk per day will be on the third day when you walk from Nayapul to Tikhedhunga, which will be four to five hours.
The maximum walk per day will be seven to eight hours when you hike to sacred Khayer Lake from Khopra Danda on the eighth day of the itinerary. The second maximum hike per day of six to seven hours will be on the ninth day when you descend from Khopra Ridge to Swanta Village.
During the Khopra Danda Trek, you’ll lodge in a three-star hotel in Pokhara and Kathmandu. Similarly, you must stay in lodges or tea houses while trekking. These locations provide basic amenities such as twin beds, blankets, and communal toilets. If you want a hot shower, you must pay an additional fee.
In terms of food, these teahouses and lodges serve both non-vegetarian and vegetarian dishes to the visitors. The most common dishes these places serve are Daal Bhat Tarkari, noodles, soups, loaves of bread, momos, eggs, pancakes, chapati, and so on. You will also get filtered and boiled water at every teahouse.
However, you can use your purifying tablets in the water for further safety regarding your health. In the drinks, there are tea, coffee, herbal infusions, cold drinks, alcohol, and beers available. But we urge you to drink only water during trekking to avoid any problems related to your health.
If you are embarking on a journey in the Annapurna Region of Nepal, including the Khopra Danda Trek, you must get two permits so that you can continue your trek to your destination. The following are the two permits that you must get:
After arriving in Nepal, you will be met at the airport and brought to your 3-star accommodation in a private vehicle. The next day, you will travel to Pokhara aboard a comfortable tourist bus from Kathmandu. You can also choose to fly, but it will cost you more money than the services we give.
Similarly, on the third and tenth days, you will travel by private jeep from Pokhara to Nayapul and vice versa. On your return journey, you will ride in a tourist bus to Kathmandu. Finally, on the final day, we will transport you off at the airport, capping up your journey in Nepal by private vehicle.
Travel insurance comes with handling the unexpected and emergencies that may happen either during your trip. A meaningful trip to the sacred Khayer Lake, perched at 4620 meters above sea level, will be an addition to the already pleasure-seeking journey.
