Trip Information - Good to Know

Best Time For Mera Peak

It is more of a climbing-focused journey and also consists of a long trekking journey before the expedition. As we mentioned above this trek consists of technical climbs and light mountaineering. So, it becomes very necessary to plan for a suitable time for the climbing expedition on Mera Peak.

But it is a hard one to pick the suitable one out of season. Considering the experience, technical aspects, circumstances, factors, and features of the most experienced trekkers or climbers, it comes out to be Spring and Autumn as the best time to have this Mera Peak climbing expedition. These seasons are the best for trekking journeys too and the weather favors a lot which is a very important factor of the climbing expedition

So, in the spring, you will be getting a very refreshing journey while on the trek and a scenic one as you will see blossoming flowers covering the landscapes of the region. The most thing is the weather gets very stable and predictable which plays a vital role during the expedition. The days also get longer to have more daytime for the trek. The visibility also gets clear as the monsoon before the Spring washes all the dust in the air. These factors will give you a reason to choose it as one of the best times for this trekking.

And during Autumn, the best thing is about the weather which gets its most stable stage of the year. The visibility gets its best letting you enjoy the scenic views. The journey gets very colorful as the dry leaves are about to be replaced with new ones. It gives the landscapes of the trekking a very warm hue and a colorful change. So, the most picturesque, journey will be getting you and the most mesmerizing vibe will follow you during your trekking journey.

For information, winter is not that recommended as the snowfall gets heavier and the cold gets extreme. And the trials and routes get more difficult with the snow. You will have to tackle routes and steeps covered with slippery ice. Ultimately, this season is considered a risky play for any kind of climbing activity in the mountain region but still, you can see some of the adventure seekers trying to do it despite, the extreme factors.

Accommodation of Food and Drinks

In this whole itinerary days, most of the stays will be at the Teahouse for the remote places, so the food goes with the same. But all the logistics will be provided for you which is a basic structure of a person’s daily accommodation. While you are in Kathmandu you will get the standard services as you will be getting to stay at the 3-star hotel for your overnight stay so the service will.

Your basic structure of the meal will be breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

So, the menu of the Teahouses where you are having most of the logistics or the accommodation is filled with local foods and dishes which include foods like Dal Bhat Tarkari, different soups, various noodle items, eggs, chana, and many more. You will not see any of the Western dishes in most of the Teahouses as they are limited in resources. You rarely find some of the Himalayan restaurants offering you some pickup items like Pizza, burgers, Pasta, and some other limited number of dishes.

As we discussed, you will be getting standard services in Kathmandu while you are having your overnight at 3-star hotels. But you should know that the Teahouses in the Khumbu region or any of the trekking trails in Nepal are running with very limited resources by transferring the goods through animals like donkeys. As there is no means of transport or any infrastructure for that. So, they are unable to provide you with the proper services like in Kathmandu or let’s say you will be getting a huge gap between them. But they still provide you the services for the basic logistics for food and overnight stay with the good lodges. So, you need to be there with the accommodation within limited services. It is not that good to complain.

Also, there you may find that the price of goods or any commercial items is more expensive or a price hike than in Kathmandu, but the matter of same they have very limited opportunities to earn some money as there are no other commercial trades for them to earn as you are at the remotest part of Nepal and they also brought the good through animals or being a potter in such difficult uphill steeps. Therefore we suggest you not to have to argue with them about the pricing of goods and give a good example of good trekkers and visitors. And it is also a matter of respect for the hard work.

Preparation And Fitness

You need strict and very planned preparation for this journey. It is not only a regular trekking journey but a very technical climbing session too. And it also consists of a long journey of more than two weeks. And you are traveling through the diverse nature between the landscapes of the hilly region.

So, starting with the clothes you need to pack at least 5 pairs of clothes which are comfortable and suitable for the trekking journey and some pair of warm clothes to protect yourself from the cold during night and morning. And for the footwear carry at least 2 pairs of trekking boots as you will not get another pair if you find fault in your footwear at such a remote place.

Also, do not forget to carry basic medical support with you or the Medical kits as it is a very necessary tools during the trekking journey and will help you during an emergency having or getting small wounds are often normal things during any long trek but it may get you more infection of not properly cured.

For the matter of fitness, you should be really in good shape to do the regular trekking and this is the trekking including the climbing expedition at the snow-capped peak. So, being in good shape is not that enough, you need to exercise for at least a month for regular days before your trekking journey. Otherwise, it may be hard for you even if you are in good shape. Also, we recommend you do some respiration exercises for better results while in your trekking journey.

Note: This is not just a regular trekking journey but a climbing expedition too, furthermore light mountaineering. So, this mera Peak climbing needs strict and professional preparation before the itinerary. Here in this section, we only mentioned the preparation and fitness on the basic level which you can do by yourself before heading for your journey. In addition, you will be provided with further professional and fundamental preparation for all equipment, gear, and health before your journey in the briefing session and during queries. Get them while in sessions and follow them gently with discipline while on your journey.

Permits

This trekking journey is a climbing expedition on its own. It is also a light mountaineering which needs technical climbing. And this trek goes through many restricted areas so, you need several permits to get access to this Mera Peak climbing.

As this trek is not only a trekking journey but also a climbing and mountaineering as mentioned above it is making it complex as it also consists of so many conserved areas and covers the long trekking journey. More confusingly this has two routes to go through one is from the Sagarmatha National Park and another through the Makalu Barun National Park.

And this itinerary of our journey goes through the Makalu Barun National Park. So, below are the required permits to get access through this Makalu route.

  • NMAP – Nepal Mountaineering Association Permit
  • LAP – Local Area Permit
  • MBNPP – Makalu Barun National Park Permit
  • TIMS – (Trekking Information Management System)
